Registration-August Family Newsletter 2018

From Mr. Joseph’s Desktop

What a summer it has been for our beloved River View Middle School. From the last day of school for students continuing right through the first couple weeks of August the building has been a host of construction activity. The entire old section of the building (riverside) has been getting significant updates to the heating, ventilation, lighting and safety systems. The contractors have been been working at a steady pace and with most of the “dirty” work done, they are starting to put the new in place. As they say, have to go through the mess if you want to get to the pretty. The school has also been receiving updates with a fair amount of painting, which was needed. I look forward to seeing you at our Open House so you can witness first hand the updates.

Speaking of updates, I want to also talk about the Online Registration process the District started in early July. If you have not yet completed the Online Registration you need to do so by August 13th. If you are not able to make Registration on August 14 or 15th, you still need to complete the Annual Online Registration process for the 2018-19 school year.

Families can access the Annual Online Registration through the Parent Portal in Infinite Campus. While completing the registration process you will be updating information such as address/phone numbers, emergency contacts, health history, and information for co-curriculars. Updating your information now will help make Registration (i.e. families/students that do not complete Online Registration before Registration on August 14/15th will have to do so before they can sign up for co-curriculars or get their Chromebook) and the start of the school go more smoothly as you will not have all that paperwork to fill out as you did it online. If you have not yet signed up for an Infinite Campus Parent Portal account, complete the request form by going to http://www.kaukauna.k12.wi.us/family/GetaParentPortalAcct.cfm

I understand that moving to the Online Registration process will be new learning for all of us. However, in the long run it will make things more efficient for parents, families and the District. Thank you for your patience as we work through this change.

Enjoy the remainder of your summer break and I look forward to seeing you at Registration in August. Be safe and thanks for encouraging the kids to spend some time reading.

Dan Joseph
Principal

Chromebook Loan Agreement for 7th and 8th Graders

This fall our 7th and 8th graders will receive their Chromebook which they will keep for the school year. However, all 7th Grade and 8th Grade students and a parent/guardian will need to attend a meeting before receiving a chromebook. This meeting will go over the Chromebook loan agreement which includes appropriate use, privacy, proper care, etc. In order to receive their Chromebooks during Registration, you need to attend one of the following meetings on Monday, August, 13th at 6 pm or Wednesday, August 15th at 8:30 am in the KHS Library. If you are unable to attend one of the meetings, the student will receive their Chromebook during the first week of school (not during Registration).

Eighth graders who had a chromebook last year will need to sign a Chromebook loan agreement again with the online registration in order to receive a chromebook during Registration or the first week of school. We will have a station set up at Registration that will hand out your Chromebook and answer any questions you have regarding this exciting opportunity for your child. If you did not complete the Online Registration, your child will not be able to pick up their Chromebook.

Student Pictures -- August 14 & 15

Picture packets are optional and listed on the River View website, but we need all students to be photographed so we can include them in our annual yearbook and issue them a photo ID.

We are taking them at this time to avoid loss of class time during the school year and to have them returned sooner. All students will be provided a photo ID which is used primarily for library checkout and hot lunch use. Picture retakes and those students who did not come to Registration in August are scheduled for Wednesday, September 19th from 8:00-11:00 am.

Regarding picture charges, please write a separate check to Network Photography for your picture packet or purchase online. Purchasing a picture packet does not include the purchase of a yearbook. Yearbooks will be sold at a later date during the school year. If you have any questions regarding picture information, go to: www.studioatnetwork.net or call 262-677-8662.

Recommendations:

  • Buy extra of general items to easily and cost effectively replenish supplies throughout the year.

  • LABEL student’s name with permanent marker on ALL items BEFORE bringing to school.
  • Bring a silent reading book the first day of school.

When you come to Registration in August, you will be signing up for activities, turning in paperwork for physicals/alternate year card, and paying activity fees.

Girls Volleyball Program Try-Outs

River View Middle School will be sponsoring two teams each at the seventh and eighth grade levels for our volleyball program. Each team will consist up to 15 players. This limit is based upon a work-able number that allows for maximum participation by those interested in volleyball. There will be an evaluation period that will be held during the first 1-2 weeks of practice. This evaluation period will be used by the school coaches in determining and developing the two teams. The evaluation tool that will be used will review both the skill level of the individual as well as one’s knowledge of the activity. Prior playing experience will also be considered. At the conclusion of the evaluation period, students will be notified as to their status with the team.

Tryouts will be during the week of August 20th.  More information to come on specific dates and times. (Watch Parent Portal for more details to come.) Any girls that would like to try out for the school sponsored team must attend the first week of practice.

Cross Country for Grades 6-8

Practice begins the week of August 27th at 3:30 pm by River View’s tennis courts. Sign up will be at the Co-Curricular table at Registration on August 14 & 15.

Volunteers Welcome and Needed

Volunteers make a difference! There are many projects/activities involving education, entertainment and everyday assistance to our children that the Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) supports throughout the year. They require the efforts of many to run smoothly. We are calling on your generosity and expertise to support these projects/activities. Remember it takes an exceptional person to give their time and energies to help make our school stronger. Your assistance will assure that all of our students have the most memorable school experience possible. Please pick up a Volunteer Form at Registration.

PAC (Parent Advisory Committee)

RVMS functions as one PAC group with a strong belief that it is best to focus our efforts on creating broad based relationships across the grades/families as all will benefit from collaborative approach. An additional benefit to all building meetings will be an increase in the level and amount of school family communication throughout the year. The PAC meets on the third Tuesday of each month to discuss school activities, events, and concerns about our school. All meetings will begin at 6:00 pm in the LMC.

PAC meeting dates for the upcoming year are:
