August 2021 Family Newsletter

 From Mr. Cromell’s Desktop

We are very excited to be heading into a new school year and getting back to our business of helping students become the best possible version of themselves. After a challenging period, we are looking forward to transitioning back to some of our past routines, while continuing with some of the great things that we were able to accomplish over the last couple years.

During the school year we will be continuously discussing the River View building’s upcoming 100th birthday, and some exciting opportunities for our students, staff, parents, and community members that focus on the rich history of River View.  We will be discussing more of this during our PAC meetings throughout the year, which will take place in the evening in the River View library. I will be sending out the specific dates and times in an Infinite Campus messenger in the weeks to come. We hope to see you there!

I want to remind all families about the Online Registration process. If you have not yet completed the Online Registration you need to do so using Infinite Campus Parent Portal by August 15th. The Online Registration process is required for all students, and contains the Chromebook Agreement that will allow for a seamless transition into the school year.

The Online Registration process will completely phase out the need for in-person registration after this year. Our in-person registration dates of August 17th (12:00-7:00) and August 18th (8:00-12:00) are mainly for new families and any students that wish to have their picture taken before school starts. Next summer (2022) all registration will take place online.

We will continue to run our very popular River View Open House so that students can meet their teachers, see their classrooms, and get acclimated to the building. Open House will be on Wednesday, August 25th from 6:00-7:30 pm. We encourage students to view/save their schedules using their Infinite Campus account, so we will not be printing hard copy schedules this year. We appreciate your understanding of this as we work to conserve time and resources.

As always, if you have any questions do not hesitate to contact the River View office. We look forward to a fantastic school year!

Luke Cromell

Principal

REGISTRATION and FOOD SERVICE ACCOUNTS!

You can use a checking/savings account or major credit cards for a fee of $1.75. This tool helps eliminate the need to send cash or checks with a student to school and provides parents with a simple way to stay on top of school fees and services. Here’s how:

1. Sign into the Parent Portal.

2. If you have more than one student do NOT select a student.  View the information as the household.

3. On the left-hand side under Family click on Payments. This will list payments for all students in the household at one time. You are only able to make payments while in the family view.

4. Any fee that still has a balance remaining to be paid you will be able to enter an amount in the payment field.

5. Click “continue” after filling in all fees you would like to make a payment to.

6. Now select the Payment Method you would like to use. First time using it you will select “Add” to add a payment method and the next time you use this feature, the payment information will be saved. Click “Continue”.

7. Review the payment information. If a receipt of this payment is desired, enter the email address where the receipt should be sent in the Receipt Email Address field. Review the payment information again to ensure accuracy. To exit without making the transaction, click Cancel.

8. Otherwise, click Make Payments to process the fees payment. When the transaction has been processed, the Payment Receipt screen will display: Click the Make Payment button to process the payment.

Chromebooks

All River View students have the opportunity to use a district-owned Chromebook for the school year. The Student Chromebook Loan Agreement is accessible through the online registration process. The Chromebook Loan Agreement includes appropriate use, privacy, and proper care. Please read through that information with your child. Students will also learn more about being a good digital citizen throughout the school year.

Student Pictures -- August 17 & 18

Picture packets are optional and listed on the River View website. We need all students to be photographed so we can include them in our annual yearbook and issue them a photo ID. A photo ID is used primarily for library checkout and hot lunch use. Picture retakes for those students who did not come to Registration in August are scheduled for Monday, September 20th.

Regarding picture charges, please write a separate check to Network Photography for your picture packet or purchase online

at this link: Prepay online | River View Middle School

Please note: Purchasing a picture packet does not include the purchase of a yearbook. Yearbooks will be sold at a later date during the school year. If you have any questions regarding picture information, go to: www.studioatnetwork.net or call 262-677-8662.

Bussing and Student Drop Off Reminders

The Kaukauna Area School District contracts with Kobussen for student bus transportation. If you have questions about issues pertaining to bussing routes, please call Kobussen at 766-0606.

Parents need to update all information on the Parent Portal by Aug. 15th, 2021. For Kobussen to schedule routes, please answer YES or NO for AM and PM Routes. If your student is not eligible for bussing, please answer NO for AM and PM.

Only students being bussed will be dropped off and/or picked up on the river side(north) of the building due to safety concerns. Parents of 5th and 6th grade students who are dropping off their child(ren) should use the west side of Island Street. 7th and 8th grade parents who are dropping off their child(ren) should drop off along the main entrance on the west side of the building. This will help ease congestion but more importantly will provide for a greater level of safety for students. Again, thank you for helping us make River View Middle School a safe school. Once students are dropped off they are expected to report to their entrance as they have in the past.

If you need a copy of the School Supply List, it is at the bottom of this Newsletter or you may go to River View’s website and find it on the Home Page under Supply Lists.

Recommendations:

  • Bring a reasonable amount of each item to Open House or the first day of school. Keep the spares at home!

  • LABEL student’s name on all items with permanent marker BEFORE bringing to school.

  • Bring a silent reading book on the first day of school.

Girls Volleyball Program Try-Outs for Grades 7&8

River View Middle School hopes to sponsor two teams each at the seventh and eighth grade levels for our volleyball program. Each team will consist of up to 15 players. This limit is based upon a work-able number that allows for maximum participation by those interested in volleyball. There will be an evaluation period that will be held during the first 1-2 weeks of practice. This evaluation period will be used by the school coaches in determining and developing the two teams. The evaluation tool that will be used will review both the skill level of the individual as well as one’s knowledge of the activity. Prior playing experience will also be considered. At the conclusion of the evaluation period, students will be notified as to their status with the team.

Tryouts will be during the week of August 23rd.  More information to come on specific dates and times. Be sure to check the parent portal for updates. Any girls that would like to try out for the school sponsored team must attend the first week of practice.

Cross Country for Grades 6-8

Practice begins the week of August 30th. Please make sure all necessary paperwork is completed prior to August 30th.

River View Raider Football for Grades 6-8

Practice begins the week of August 9th. If you missed the sign up, you can still sign up! Please call the River View office to get signed up. Please make sure all necessary paperwork is completed prior to the first day of practice.

Volunteers Welcome and Needed

Volunteers make a difference! There are many activities involving education, entertainment and everyday assistance for our children that the Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) supports throughout the year. These activities require the efforts of many to run smoothly. We are calling on your generosity and expertise to support these projects/activities! Remember it takes an exceptional person to give their time and energy to help make our school stronger. Your assistance will ensure that all of our students have the most memorable school experience possible. Please pick up a Volunteer Form in the office if you’re interested.

PAC (Parent Advisory Committee)

The PAC strongly believes that it is best to focus our efforts on creating relationships across all grades and all families as all students will benefit from this collaborative approach. The PAC meets monthly to discuss school activities, events, and concerns at our school.  A benefit to all building meetings is an increased level of school-to-family communication throughout the year. Information will be sent to all River View contacts through Infinite Campus Messenger.
