2019 August Family Newsletter

From Mr. Joseph’s Desktop

When the summer school classes wind down and the cleaning crew starts to swarm the building, it is certain we are approaching the start of a school year. And though the summer has moved on at what feels like a faster than normal pace, I am excited about the possibilities that come with a fresh start each fall. Particularly exciting for me is the variety of new hires we have added to the River View staff this past spring and summer. I am very much looking forward to integrating the energy and thinking of these hires with our current staff as we work to continue our efforts to support increased student achievement at River View. I invite you to introduce yourself to the new hires when you join us at our Open House in August.

The heating, ventilation and lighting work at River View is moving ahead at a steady pace, with many rooms already getting new ceiling tiles and a fresh layer of paint. I am very happy that this work will be completed this summer and that the entire building will now benefit from the more consistent heating, better air flow and brighter lighting in all rooms. In addition to the inside work happening this summer I am super excited about the fresh new look in the front of our great school. If you have not seen yet, the old, outdated canopy has been removed and now one gets to see the full beauty of the auditorium facade. I am looking forward to seeing the yellow panels on the auditorium being replaced as well, as this too will add to the updated look from Crooks Avenue.

As thoughts of school begin to dance around the edges of your thinking, please know that our Registration will be at Kaukauna High School this year due to the ongoing construction at River View. More specifics on Registration can be found later on in this newsletter.

Indeed, I am very excited about the possibilities that will come with the new school year. Our work this summer is evidence that we are keeping our focus on creating a positive learning environment that supports teacher and student growth. I hope the remainder of your summer is safe, enjoyable and filled with memories that last a lifetime.

Dan Joseph
River View Principal

Chromebook Loan Agreement for 7th and 8th Graders

This fall our 7th and 8th graders will receive their Chromebooks which they will keep for the school year. Chromebook loan agreements are part of the online registration process. In order to receive a Chromebook the online registration information will need to be completed. We will have a station set up at Registration that will hand out your Chromebook and answer any questions you have regarding this exciting opportunity for your child. If you did not complete the Online Registration, your child will not be able to pick up their Chromebook.

During Open House, we will have a meeting for parents and students that will go over the Chromebook loan agreement which includes appropriate use, privacy, proper care, etc. We strongly encourage all parents and students to attend the meeting. The meeting will be held in the River View Auditorium 5:30-6pm.

Student Pictures -- August 13 & 14

Picture packets are optional and listed on the River View website, but we need all students to be photographed so we can include them in our annual yearbook and issue them a photo ID.

We are taking them at this time to avoid loss of class time during the school year and to have them returned sooner. All students will be provided a photo ID which is used primarily for library checkout and hot lunch use. Picture retakes and those students who did not come to Registration in August are scheduled for Wednesday, September 18th from 8:00-11:00 am.

Regarding picture charges, please write a separate check to Network Photography for your picture packet or purchase online. Purchasing a picture packet does not include the purchase of a yearbook.  If you have any questions regarding picture information, go to: www.studioatnetwork.net or call 262-677-8662.

Bussing and Student Drop Off Reminders

Parents of 5th and 6th grade students who are dropping off their child(ren) should use the west side of Island Street. 7th and 8th grade parents who are bringing their child(ren) to school should drop off along the main entrance on the west side of the building. This will help ease congestion but more importantly will provide for a greater level of safety for students. Again, thank you for helping us make River View Middle School a safe school. Once students are dropped off they are expected to report to their entrance as they have in the past.

The Kaukauna Area School District contracts with Kobussen for student bus transportation. If you have questions about issues pertaining to busing routes, please call Kobussen at 766-0606. (Bus routes are mailed home about a week before school begins.)

Volunteers Welcome and Needed

Volunteers make a difference! There are many projects/activities involving education, entertainment and everyday assistance to our children that the Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) supports throughout the year. They require the efforts of many to run smoothly. We are calling on your generosity and expertise to support these projects/activities. Remember it takes an exceptional person to give their time and energy to help make our school stronger. Your assistance will assure that all of our students have the most memorable school experience possible. Please pick up a Volunteer Form at Registration.

PAC (Parent Advisory Committee)
RVMS functions as one PAC group with a strong belief that it is best to focus our efforts on creating broad based relationships across the grades/families as all will benefit from collaborative approach. An additional benefit to all building meetings will be an increase in the level and amount of school family communication throughout the year. The PAC meets on the third Tuesday of each month to discuss school activities, events, and concerns about our school. All meetings will begin at 6:00 pm in the LMC.

PAC meeting dates for the upcoming year are:
