Family Newsletter September 2021

From the Desktop of Mr. Cromell

It has been fantastic to once again have the school filled with the hustle and bustle of our students and staff.  Both learning and socializing are important facets of a middle school student’s educational experience, and we continue to work hard to provide both of these aspects through the multi-leveled systems of support we offer at River View.

Each day students continue to learn more about their teachers, classmates, the building, and their grade level routines. We offer a sincere thank you to our families for the support and flexibility you provide to our school, even through the most challenging of times.

Please continue to stay connected, reach out to teachers, ask questions, and stay involved in our school community. Together we have the ability to make this a happy, healthy, and successful school year.

Take care and be well!

Sincerely,

Luke Cromell

Principal

Safety First

The safety of all our students is a priority that we take seriously both inside the building as well as outside on the playground, in the parking lot and in our crosswalks. With the school year underway I want to remind all drivers to please slow down as you are moving about school property. Thank you as well for giving students and adults plenty of space while they are in the crosswalks and for not calling your child to run between buses to be picked up in the street.

Your child(ren)'s safety is very important to us so thank you for your support and cooperation with keeping these requests in mind as you come to school.

*Please avoid any pick-ups and drop-offs on the river side while busses are present.

Safety Week

During the week of September 12th River View will be hosting its annual Safety Week. As part of this week students will participate in various practice drills(fire, tornado, hold, evacuation) to help them be better prepared in the event we have an actual situation.

What Parents Need to Know About

Eighth Grade Academic and Career Planning Meetings

A message from Mrs. Hinz, School Counselor,

One of the key components to the Wisconsin School Counseling is to have 8th graders participate in an Eighth Grade Academic and Career Planning Meeting.

The Eighth Grade Academic and Career Planning Meetings are specifically designed for parents/guardians and students to gain insight into their child’s development to this point and to help the student create goals for the future and assist with the transition to high school.

There will be more information coming up about the meeting times and places.

5th Grade Beginning Band and Orchestra

Every student who is thinking about starting a band or orchestra instrument is encouraged to begin in the 5th grade year because it becomes more difficult to start an instrument in the future once others have already begun.  All 5th grade students will be bringing home information about our Beginning Band and Orchestra programs during the first few days of school.

Here are some important dates to mark on your calendar!

  • September 8th – 13th: Recruitment Week - All 5th grade students will learn about the band and orchestra programs and their options for instruments during their music classes.

  • September 17th:  All 5th graders who want to join one of these groups should have gone to the website and completed the Matching Tool form by September 17th.

  • September 28th: -Band and Orchestra Meetings. Parents and students should plan to attend this important meeting at either 4:30pm or 5:30pm at River View to get all the details about these great programs.

  • Week of October 11th: Band and Orchestra lessons begin!!

Questions? – Please contact one of the following instructors:

   Kathryn Nesemann, Orchestra Instructor- nesemannk@kaukaunasd.org

Strength and Conditioning

7th and 8th Grade Strength and Conditioning Opportunity 21-22

Beginning September 13th, the high school weight room will be open to 7th and 8th grade students from 600am-700am.

For 7th grade students, the weight room will be Mondays and Thursdays.

For 8th grade students, the weight room will be open Tuesdays, and Fridays.

Please be aware that it will not be open on holidays, late starts, and snow days. With inclement weather ahead, assume if they are considering canceling or delaying school, the weight room will not be open.

Students will be led through a strength training program that builds off summer strength and conditioning. Workouts will be developed dependent on their previous experience, and lifting technique. There is no previous training necessary. The 7th and 8th graders will be led by Luke Gajewski, a coach and teacher in our district. Parents are asked to drop their son/daughter off at or before 600am at the stadium turnaround. The locker room and shower room will be available after 7am. Bussing will be available for athletes from the high school to the middle school between 7:20 and 7:30 at the back of the school. Nutrition is important to their development so please supply your son/daughter with a snack after their workout as one will not be provided. Examples-peanut butter sandwiches, honey, milk, yogurt, fruit, peanuts.

If you have any questions regarding the opportunity, please contact Luke Gajewski by email.
